Day 8 – cold and heat, contrasts of Iceland

Today has been a day of great contrasts. I woke at seven to the sound of driving rain and four degrees C.

Getting out of bed was no fun, and the rest of the day seemed uncertain. I’m extremely happy we got to do the whale safari last night.

After breakfast and some discussion it was decided that we should leave Husavik instead of spending the day there.

We headed off and visited Ásbyrgi national park and Dettifoss before stopping for lunch at myvatn hot springs.

Some hot food and a long hot soak in the hot spring was just what everyone needed. After three hours we continued on to Akureyri where we’ll spend the night and some time tomorrow.
